I'll admit it; I really love the beginning of each school year. Yes, it means the end of summer vacation. But I've always enjoyed the way it lets us all start fresh, with a clean slate for the upcoming year.
And I thought, on this second day of the new school year in East Penn, I'd share two tidbits that help show our schools are on the right track.
The first is a conversation I overheard this summer between my son and one of his older friends. She graduated from Emmaus High School last year and is now attending RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology), an elite university known for its engineering and computer technology programs. My son was asking her about how her first year in college went. She replied that it was all pretty easy, because so much was repetitive of things she had already done at Emmaus. That's not a bad testament to the quality of education our kids can get in East Penn!
The other tidbit comes from a thing I read on Facebook this summer. Someone had posted to say they were looking for housing, which needed to have 3 bedrooms and be located in the East Penn School District. Seeing this reminded me that East Penn really is a district of choice in our region. People want to live in our community, and they want to live here in no small part because of the quality of our schools.
Sure, there are plenty of ways our schools can be improved even further. And regular readers will know that I'm not shy about pointing out those ways! But it's also worth remembering that the hard work, expertise, and experience we have in East Penn schools pays off in big ways for all of us.
